Our Story

Open Meetings came into being back in 2007 to try and help athletes find open athletics meetings - primarily in London. Over 1000 meetings have been added to the site since its inception, and while it has maintained consistent usage throughout the years, we recognized the need for modernization to better serve our community.

Our platform has always been free to use, both for clubs advertising their meetings and for athletes, coaches, and parents looking for them. We've prioritized making the process of adding open meetings to the site as straightforward as possible, with our search functionality being a key differentiator in the athletics community.

What Makes Us Different

Unlike traditional calendar-based event listings, our search function allows users to find specific event types with precise filtering options. Whether you're searching for an open discus competition specifically for masters athletes in London during August, our search function will help you find exactly what you're looking for - a practical way to boost participation in grass roots athletics.

Future Vision

As we continue to develop, we're excited to introduce new features and partnerships. Our vision extends beyond just listing events - we aim to sponsor up-and-coming athletes through revenue generated from strategic partnerships. While profit has never been our primary motivation, any success we achieve will be reinvested into providing sponsorship opportunities for athletes.

Our Founders

Simon Langley

Simon's athletics journey began at age 15 at Worksop College, where he served as school athletics captain. A member of various athletic clubs including Newark Athletic Club and currently Trafford AC, Simon has earned county medals in multiple events including long jump, discus, shot, hammer, and javelin. His unique achievement of a 3:39.03 marathon and 32.98m discus throw combination in 2011 showcases his versatility as an athlete.

Beyond athletics, Simon is actively involved in squash, bringing valuable experience from managing the NW Counties Squash League and the Cheshire Squash Rackets Association to Open Meetings.

Harry Mattocks

Harry is a full-time web developer who brings his technical expertise to Open Meetings. His journey in sports began with squash at age 16, and he currently competes in the NW Counties Squash League representing Prestbury Squash Club. It was through the squash community that Harry and Simon's paths crossed, leading to this collaboration.

While Open Meetings marks Harry's first venture into athletics, he brings extensive experience in developing systems for the squash community, making him an ideal partner in this project.
